We would like to take this opportunity to showcase a couple of our favorite projects.
Drum roll please......

Have you ever seen such a beautiful (and spotless) kitchen?

This is my absolute FAVORITE bathroom! I love the contrast of the colors. This project turned out absolutely gorgeous.

We love this bar area, because its a great use of the space.

I love doing posts checklist-style, because I think it gives you, our readers, a quick and easy guide of things to remember when going through the process of remodeling. Today, we are going to focus on things you need to do before you even start a remodel (and after you've picked your contractor.) So, before you begin you will need:
1. A Plan : I cant emphasize how important planning is in ALL steps of a renovation project. Your plan should be inclusive of budget, time frame, material options, etc. etc. etc. Don't leave out a single detail and make sure you AND your contractor know the information in your plan. All this information is usually found in the contract that you form with your contractor. Knowing the answers to these questions will help you to both know what expectations you have for the project and help you to stay on budget, on time, and reduce the chances that mistakes are made.
2. Your contractor and project manager's contact information: Assuming that you've already made the decision of who is filling these roles, you should be sure to know how to reach them, even after business hours. You want your contractor to be able to reach you immediately should they have questions about ordering your materials or what color paint you wanted. Not staying in contact opens you up for misunderstandings and slows down the process. A lot of people prefer contact via email. Email is a great tool to keep informed, but make sure you check your account often and don't rely on this method for time-sensitive questions or information.
3. Patience: Some materials take time to order and some projects take longer than others. Be prepared with realistic expectations on how long a project will last and don't panic if there happen to be delays. Projects consist of lots of moving parts that occasionally can take longer than expected. With the right contractor, you're project will get done and it will be beautiful.
We gave you our thoughts on what is important to remember when starting a remodel, but we want to hear your suggestions from your own experience. Please leave a comment!
